Why am I Alone - Loneliness is bliss

We, humans, have this intrinsic desire to be accompanied, to have someone's hand in our hand and can walk by our side, to hug someone when we are overwhelmed with emotions. Someone whom we can look up to when things are upside down. When we are haunted by ghoulish darkness we expect someone to come by with a candle and light our way. Humans are dark-averse beings. We get terrified when the languished in the dark. We get scared when we are stranded alone in a solitary way. We feel we are being strangled if we are asked to walk alone. To us, darkness signifies absence. It reflects the emptiness. It emanates the loneliness and you know lonely is the least we all want to be.

But I don't think being alone is that bad or is scary the way it has been perceived by most of the people. Loneliness is not the absence of people but the presence of your very self which has basically been drowned out by this mass consuming, self-centered society which thrives on pulling each other's leg. Being alone is giving a chance to yourself to come out of yourself and see who you are, see what you want and who you want to be. Being alone is a blessing for those who have obliterated their uniqueness in the crowd. Being alone is being a round peg in a square hole and I understand that we are social animals are social beings. We are obliged to be in a group, in a society where we can help and take care of each other but we are equally an individual being. Perhaps, our individuality comes first, our own self which we later add to other individuals and make a society.

We do need to take care of that individual self  - our soul and believe me you cannot serve that soul better than being alone. I'm reminded of this line from the movie "into the wild" where it says "you're wrong if you think that joy of life principally comes from human relationship. God has placed it all around us" - in the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, a ray of sunlight in the winter morning, a gaze at an infinite ocean, reading a book. It's everywhere in every minute details of this magnificent nature. It's even within you. You don't necessarily need to seek it outside of yourself. You really don't need to rely on other people to give you the satisfaction of your life.

And not just that, solitude is a breeding ground for artistic and creative abilities. Every great artists and creative people have gone through prolonged period of solitude - Da Vinci, Tesla, Einstein, Picasso, you name it and it makes sense because you know art is about expressing yourself and you cannot express yourself unless you don't know yourself and there's no better way to know yourself than spending more time with yourself- just yourself.  See I don't want you to leave everything and be a hermit but ever if you get a chance to savor the taste of solitude don't freak out instead take that as an opportunity to explore yourself, explore your talents and capabilities and do something good to the world.
