Why do we need Sadness as much as Happiness

So as they say that life comprises of two things - happiness and sadness. With the absence of one, it won't be called life. A person without setbacks and sorrows doesn't get to understand what life is as much as the person without success and excitement. These are the two pivotal pillars of the bridge that we walk-on that keeps us balanced and stable. God forbid if any of these pillars fall the bridge collapses and the very idea of life shatters and we are buried deep down under the debris of this scattered life. So the question arises - is it really necessary for us to have these two contradicting emotions to lead a fulfilled life. Won't it be a life if one gets to feel just one of it most presumably happiness? Why do we need to cry if smiling takes less of muscle movement or why do we need to make our heart heavy if it beats faster when light. And I think this contrast in our life comes from this peculiar fetish nature has of keeping everything in equilibrium  - in other words well balanced

A slight variation in the wind pressure can result in a catastrophic storm or a minute fluctuation in the gravity of sun can turn our solar system into a rugby match. Every single speck of dust in this universe is ensuring the stability of it and sometimes this intricate precision of nature extends to human emotions to keep us stable. With the absence of one thing, there will be an overabundance of other and as the old adage goes "excess of everything's bad."

So the overabundance of happiness will succumb us as much as it would in the sadness. The excessive influx of serotonin in our body is as hazardous as not having at all. When you have a lot of choices in front of you and it's so large that you actually end up choosing none or when you see a swarm of birds soaring in the sky and the number is so high that the time to notice each bird gets so narrow that you actually see nothing except for the pattern performed together. It's the kind of blind spot. Things are there and yet you don't get to see. A kind of void perhaps, formed because of over saturation and it's actually to avoid that void in our life that we are afflicted with pain or blessed with joy.

So the piercing pain that we experience when we are sad actually serves as the foundation of the joy that we feel when we are happy. Wishing a life full of happiness is one way of asking for an unstable life. Next time when you hold your hand in front of your God make sure that you wish for pain as much as you do for the happiness. Both are equally important.
